Today's mood board is in honor of my in-law's place. They have a beautiful home in the Ozarks that they built 10 years ago and I keep meaning to photograph it and share it with you. But my boys and their toys and the rest of us and our stuff keep getting in the way and before you know it, it's dark again. Maybe one day.
For now, I put together a board of what I would want to do with the space if it was my house. It's not and I'm not saying I want it to be and I'm not trying to get all "mywayisbetter" or anything. Besides, I can't afford most of the things on my moodboard! What I'm trying to say is that if I could take a Pottery Barn catalog and this house as a blank slate, here's what it might look like. AND the way it is currently is pretty and open and inviting and completely serves the purposes of my mother- and father-in-law and his 96-year-old mom who lives with them. So there. :)
The layout for this room is a rough L with the dining area on one end and the front door on the other. I ignored the entry for this board. Somewhere at the corner of the L is a wood-burning stove that is the main heat source in the winter. It's flanked by two tall windows and entirely too close to the fire to have curtains. Besides, out those windows is a patio and thousands of acres of oak trees. No need for privacy!
So, I would stick that huge (yummy) leather sectional in front of the left window and it would stick out into the room, creating a defined living room area. The beautiful rug would go in the middle of the floor with one of those delicious blue arm chairs (not from Pottery Barn) to the right of the fire. Opposite the fire is an angled wall where I would park the TV and entertainment center.
The walls in this part of the living room are suuuper tall. It would be fun to do some treatment to the ceiling or that angled wall or something, but I don't have a clear vision for that. I do know that I would do some art-pictures-letters-whatever collage wall on the wall behind the couch.
Now for the dining area. I've told you before (and I know you pay attention) that I would love a library in my dining room. I love the inspiration picture above and I believe this floorplan would leave room for it, if the table was round. There are more windows in that area, as well as a sliding glass door. I just love the ladder on the rail!
So there you have it! What do you think? Aren't we lucky to stay here?!
I think it would look beautiful, Ellie...even though I know you love it as your in-laws have it, too. Blessings to you- xo Diana
