Today I'd like to share with you my husband's and my bedroom. It's not a big tour, it's not a much-anticipated r e v e a l . It's just a comfortable room that meets our needs.
If you've been to any of our homes--even my condo before my husband and I got married, you'd see the same furniture and much of the same decorations. We're simple people, I guess.
Our bedroom is one of two upstairs with a tiny half bath in between. This is the view into our room from the top of the stairs. (Note the glass door knob! Love it!) The first two nights here, we tried centering our air mattress on the window, but then we realized that the storage nook you see on the right would need to be Gary's closet and there wouldn't be room to open the door with a nightstand there.
We put the bed beside the window instead. There is plenty of room to walk on each side. The slanted roof makes it cozy! (Note the heat/air vent in the middle of the floor--weird! Not fun to step on in the middle of the night either!)
Gary's mom made the quilt and shams for a wedding present. They were on our guest bed in our previous home and just felt right on our bed here. I guess partly I was trying to not shockingly clash with the dark mauve carpet. I know you're jealous!
I know it's a bad picture, but this shows the little nook where Gary keeps his clothes. It's about 4 feet tall and you have to get down on your knees and turn your shoulders to squeeze through the door to reach his clothes. If there was a better way to access things, it wouldn't be such a bad closet. Gary might widen the doorway.
Over on my side of the bed is my closet. The door is about 5 feet tall, so I have to duck but it's a decent size inside. Some day I might show you what the insides of our closets look like. They're efficiently organized though completely boring.
Opposite the bed is this sitting/dressing area.
We're starting a trend with window AC units! And mauve carpet. I might as well mention here that the floor isn't flat, the closets were added later and the walls aren't straight. Gotta love old houses!
If anyone wants to visit, I've got a cute guest room you can stay in! In return I'd love some help ripping out the carpet! It's the same mauve in the boys' room. Ugh! I assume there are wood floors underneath, but instead of refinishing them, I'd want to paint them gray. Wouldn't that be cute here?
I had this chair in my first-ever house in Las Vegas. It and the couch I'm sitting on now were my first grown-up purchases. I'm sure I spent more than I needed to, but the furniture has held up well, hidden any signs of age, and been with me for 13 years now! Four moves and countless hours of nursing my three babies and it's still one of my favorite places to curl up.
Do you recognize the curtains from Josiah's nursery? You know, with the barn wood valance?
Below you can see a little more of the layout. The bed is on your left with my closet barely peeking in. There's the bedroom door and the outside-swinging door to the half bath. It's a tight little spot but great for midnight bathroom calls and for getting ready in the morning. The shower is downstairs. The boys' room is across the hall and the stairs are to the right as you leave our room.
That wraps it up! Other than needing a paint job and the carpet ripped up, our bedroom is comfortable and pleasant. Honestly I doubt either of those things will happen as we'll only be here a year. Unless you come visit me and help!

Very nice! I wish you were close by and could give me some decorating ideas. You're a natural :) I've got all of our mirrors, pictures and decor leaning against a wall in our bedroom and I have no idea what to do with it all.
