Nasty junk cooked onto my stove.

Baking soda mixed with water to make a paste.
Said paste rubbed into nasty junk on cooktop.
ahhhh...Clean cooktop with no stinky Oven Off spray!

That IS cool. Our cook top was horrible, and then my cousin from Holland saw it this summer. When she got back home she sent me a stove top scraper (couldn't find one here), and it worked like a charm. It's kind of like a razor blade in a handle at just the right angle. But your method looks less scary.
