Our Christmas Tree

This is our 6th Christmas together and only our 3rd tree. On the years we go away for Christmas, we don't get a tree. This year we're staying home and are so excited to start some Christmas traditions of our own!

I love to pick out live Christmas trees, and while I stopped at two nurseries in town, I couldn't find what I was looking for! My husband stopped at another place and picked up this beauty.

J1 is 3 1/2 and old enough to be very interested in the tree! He and J2 had lots of fun 'helping' Daddy set up the tree!

Being a foreigner to this cold country stuff (I grew up in Southern California), I'm not used to having to let the tree 'rest' for 24 hours before you decorate it, but that's what we did! I let the boys hang a few ornaments on the tree.

Then we tucked them in bed. I blew a kiss at my husband as he retreated to his man cave office, I turned on some Christmas carols and decorated that tree!

My husband made this star and I wrapped it with lights. It's pretty at night, but I'm not sure I love it. Maybe I should try lights on a white strand, or not lighting it at all?

Delicious-smelling and adorable cinnamon applesauce ornaments.

Crocheted snowflakes and paper, glittery snowflakes.

A beaded bell made by my Grandma.

For the most part, I used red, silver and white for our tree and we love it! The boys have been really good about looking and not touching. :)

If you were curious, we got the red ball ornaments (some are being used in another display) and the snowflake stockings and tree skirt at Target 6 years ago.

Hope you enjoyed looking at our tree! You can find hundreds more at Thrifty Decor Chick's Christmas Tree Party.

  1. What a pretty tree! I love that your ornaments are mostly hand-made. I think the handmade star is awesome. I would try it with white lights and see if you like it better, but it has so much character I would keep it either way. Thanks for dropping by my blog and so glad I found yours! Your family is adorable!

  2. Beautiful! I love the star, but I agree - white string and lights would be better.
