Garden Salad

There's nothing better in the summer than a fresh salad. And by 'fresh' I mean FRESH! As in, just-picked-from-your-garden. Remember these little yummies from yesterday's post?

This is how you make those melt-in-your-mouth FRESH garden salads!

1) Go to  your garden (or farmer's market) and get all the lettuce you can eat. The more varieties the better--and it's prettier!

2) Give the little guys a nice cold bath. I soak my lettuce leaves until I have the time to deal with them for a few minutes, then rinse each leaf individually. No bugs or grit for me, thank you!

3) Let the lettuce drain, if you have time, or dry it on a clean towel or use a salad spinner. (At this point you can also refrigerate the lettuce for a day or two.)

3) Gently rip your lettuce into smaller pieces, adding whatever fresh herbs you have on hand. Right now I have cilantro, basil and parsley.

4) Drizzle with your favorite salad dressing and enjoy!

  1. Isn't it wonderful to have a "farmer's market" in your own backyard. I need to venture out to our garden to see what is waiting for us. I'm sure lots of zucchini! That stuff grows and grows!

What part of Iowa are you from? We live in Southeast Nebraska. :)

  3. YUM... fresh salad! You have an awesome garden... we use to have a couple of acres that my hubby loved to grow some veggies on(he grew up on a farm). We don't have that land anymore... so we have to buy it now! Thanks for stopping by Ellie and for your sweet comments... Oh... and love the name of your blog! :)

  8. Yum! You should be in marketing--you make a salad sound as appealing as an ice cream cone :) So nice to have fresh greens from the garden.
