Inspiration Files: Small, Functional Entries

I'm sure you remember from this post that our entry is lacking in function, saved only by a closet shared by the kitchen. Sometimes it's cathartic to see how other homes function better, so here is a collection of awesome entries for our inspiration.

Note: These entries are specifically for where the family comes into the house, not formal entries or foyers. I've focused on entries that are too small for benches or big storage units. Some look like mud rooms but are converted from a coat closet! We'll look at more entries with benches and awesome storage in another post!

  1. Beautiful inspiration pics! Some of them are in my someday files, too. That decorchick photo with the board & batten, was originally from Home Stories of A to Z. I recognize Beth's entryway. She has an amazing design sensibility and such a terrific go for it attitude.

  2. I like the hooks. If I had a big enough place I would use lots of hooks.

  3. Nice inspiration pics. We have a side porch with entry door that gets used rarely. Neither it or the front entry, which everyone uses instead, has adequate storage to be the family entry. Our main entry has a closet, but it belongs to the newlyweds right now, and wasn't designed to do more than hang guest coats.

With the new addition, I want to make a mud room entry out of the connecting section between the house and garage. I didn't plan it ahead, so hopefully, I can make the space work with some organizational builtins.
