Little Projects

We live in tornado country. And it's tornado season. But the last week has been so beautiful and sunny and warm that it's easy to forget how quickly a storm could come up and change all that! In the meanwhile, I'm trying to enjoy the sun and warmth and time outside with the boys. Aren't they cute?

Here's J2, 11 months old. Adorable!

J was posing and the sun was in his face, but he's still a little cutie-pants! He'll be 3 in a couple of weeks. GASP!!! How did that happen?

Of course being outside means that I can do a couple projects. I had a very blue trash can that needed to go in our anything-BUT-blue bedroom.

Hello trashcan, meet spraypaint!

It's amazing what spraypaint can do!

I thought it needed a little more bling though, so I added our initial.

Perfect!

I cook a lot. (I should be thinking of what's for dinner... What IS for dinner?!) Awhile ago I got this perfectly good recipe holder. I'm not sure I'd buy it again--I'd probably find some way to hang recipes from my cupboard with a clothespin or something like that, but since I have it, I might as well make it match! Here's the before:

I unscrewed the hinges to take out the plexiglass, then roughed it up with sandpaper.

Then I used basic white paint and gave in 2 or 3 coats... Can't remember!

I let it dry overnight, then sanded the edges, wiped it with a microfiber cloth and put it back together.

I love it!

Now I've been leaving it out on my counter! Guess I need to sign off and go find a recipe to put in my handy-dandy matching recipe-holder!

  1. Well done with the paint - I've never painted plastic but that is an impressive change, and I love your cookbook holder.
