Flashback Friday {Nursery Tour}

Our baby girl is 7 weeks old now and doing great! I feel like all I'm doing is taking care of her. I'm not sure how I did it all when her brothers were younger. At one point I had a baby, a toddler and a preschooler, plus I was doing home projects and blogging about them!

My favorite project of all time is my third son's nursery. (That's him in the picture with Jocelyn.) The window wall reveal post has gotten over 38,000 hits in the last 4 years! Since I'm still super proud of this room, I thought I'd share the tour with you today. Enjoy!

Welcome to our nursery!

The first thing you'll notice when you enter the room is this big window framed with blue silk curtains and chippy barnboards. You can read about it here.

In front of the window I added a child-sized rocker with a basket of books. Perfect for entertaining big brothers!

To the right of the window is a tall chest of drawers that was recently featured at Better After! So proud of that!

Here is my post about this dresser's amazing transformation.

I love the look of green plants in every room; not only do they add some fresh green to a room, they're good for the air! Yes, that's my middle son in the frame. I need to print some current pictures!

Next to the dresser is my favorite chair. I've had it forever and it rocks and swivels, so it's perfect for nursing and rocking Baby. I've included a small table for my Bible and water, or my laptop so I can try to catch up with my favorite blogs.

Baby's crib is next to my chair. It used to be plain wood, but I painted it and installed the board and batten right before Baby was born... and never blogged about it! I will milk this nursery for as many posts as I can do a before-and-after post soon.

No crib is complete without a mobile! Here is what I created (and here is where you can read more about it).

The door to the hall is at the foot of the crib. Besides painting it white, I've done nothing to it, so there's no picture except the glimpse you get of it next to the closet. Here is a post about the closet.

 I added the sign today and thought I'd skip a tutorial cuz everyone has fancy vinyl machines... Not me! This is my trusty sharpie marker and kindergarten teacher skills!

My older boys (ages 2 and 4) love to play in this little nook.

Of course they prefer the bedspread-turned-curtain down so they can hide!

Next to the closet is this vanity I redid, also featured at Better After and blogged about here. You won't believe the before pictures of it! Now it has been reinvented as a changing table. I bet it never saw that one coming! (Looks like a need a bigger basket for Baby's laundry so it will hide the cords!)

I made this sweet little banner using a receiving blanket.

So what do you think? I just love that room. I'm curious how it would have evolved if we had stayed in that house. I know I'm not over board and batten and can't wait to buy our own home again so I can add more!

My Kitchen {Moodboard}

So there's this house.

I love it. My husband loves it. It's perfect for our family and is even the right price.

But we're not ready to buy a house yet!

If we DID buy it though, it would need some work--part of why it's perfect for us. Just for fun, I created a moodboard of what I'd like to do in the kitchen. Because some day!

That kitchen in the center? Love it! I want to include so many things from that kitchen! It's a Fixer Upper kitchen, so of course it's dreamy. I like the gray lower cabinets with white uppers, the island shape and size, the stools, the range hood and the shape of the pendant lights. I might choose something less glam and shiny though.

The backsplash in the main picture is amazing, but it's not really me. I would prefer beadboard for the backsplash. Our upper cabinets would be plain white, not beadboard, so there's the balance.

There are two windows in the kitchen of the house we're not buying. I would add bamboo blinds. I love how the color warms up the gray. There are wood floors so that would warm it up too. I love the look and practicality of butcher block counter tops, but I'm not sure I'd want them with the wood floor. Suggestions?

I've wanted a farmhouse sink forever, and I like how it looks with the gray cabinets. We have a black fridge that is brand new and the house we're not buying has a black oven. I'd love to build, I mean, I'd love to have Gary build a hood over the stove like my inspiration picture!

The rustic shelves are just perfect. I'm not sure they'd end up in the kitchen, though they made it to the inspiration board! Gary has been wanting to build us a farm style table and I like the mix of the metal Tolix chairs and benches.

So now that it's all planned out, all we have to do is wait! For the right time to buy, for our baby girl to join the family, for winter to pass, and for the house to still be available. Right?

A girl can dream!

Another Living Room

Over the years if you've been following my blog, you've seen several versions of our living room as we've moved quite frequently. Our current home is no different; mostly the same stuff just arranged to fit a new living room. We did get new couches though!

Our current home is a rental and as such, there are things we can't change. So please ignore the brown carpet, awful (and non-functioning) vertical blinds and all of that brown paneling!

We're thrilled with our new couch and loveseat. We have never had new furniture in our home, so this is a big deal to us! The couches are kid friendly, quite comfortable, and compliment Gary's leather recliner. I like how neutral they are without being a light color and think they will hold up well.

Our TV cabinet is now home to our fish tank. I think it's pretty, Gary enjoys the hobby, and the boys like watching the fish. Besides, the tank's pump sounds a lot like a waterfall!

We inherited Gary's dad's piano. I'm looking forward to teaching the boys a thing or two about how to play!

Wouldn't that paneling look so much better in white?

I loved this crib spring display above our dining table in our last house but dressed it up a little for the living room. The banner was from Gary's graduation and you can write on it with chalk, but I like it plain for now. I've displayed the newest pictures of our boys, some favorite snapshots, and of course the ultrasound images of our baby girl!

This is the main entrance to the house. I might switch Gary's chair and the loveseat, but I really like this table in the entrance. Across from it is this dresser and mirror with a small bin for shoes. The door leads to what will be the baby's room. See a glimpse of pink?

Baby Girl's Nursery {Moodboard}

I'm just a little bit thrilled to be dreaming of all things PINK. For me though, I prefer pink as an accent color. Here's what I came up with as a starting point for our baby girl coming this December.

My main goal in putting this room together is to keep it simple. I'd love to go all-out and create this perfect baby girl oasis that can easily grow as baby does! But we're renting with plans to buy in the near future, and baby's room is tiny! 

We'll see how things progress. For now it's fun to imagine the pink and lace!
