My Kitchen {Moodboard}

So there's this house.

I love it. My husband loves it. It's perfect for our family and is even the right price.

But we're not ready to buy a house yet!

If we DID buy it though, it would need some work--part of why it's perfect for us. Just for fun, I created a moodboard of what I'd like to do in the kitchen. Because some day!

That kitchen in the center? Love it! I want to include so many things from that kitchen! It's a Fixer Upper kitchen, so of course it's dreamy. I like the gray lower cabinets with white uppers, the island shape and size, the stools, the range hood and the shape of the pendant lights. I might choose something less glam and shiny though.

The backsplash in the main picture is amazing, but it's not really me. I would prefer beadboard for the backsplash. Our upper cabinets would be plain white, not beadboard, so there's the balance.

There are two windows in the kitchen of the house we're not buying. I would add bamboo blinds. I love how the color warms up the gray. There are wood floors so that would warm it up too. I love the look and practicality of butcher block counter tops, but I'm not sure I'd want them with the wood floor. Suggestions?

I've wanted a farmhouse sink forever, and I like how it looks with the gray cabinets. We have a black fridge that is brand new and the house we're not buying has a black oven. I'd love to build, I mean, I'd love to have Gary build a hood over the stove like my inspiration picture!

The rustic shelves are just perfect. I'm not sure they'd end up in the kitchen, though they made it to the inspiration board! Gary has been wanting to build us a farm style table and I like the mix of the metal Tolix chairs and benches.

So now that it's all planned out, all we have to do is wait! For the right time to buy, for our baby girl to join the family, for winter to pass, and for the house to still be available. Right?

A girl can dream!

Big Girl Room {Moodboard}

It's been awhile since I've shared a moodboard of a space I'd like to design, so I thought I'd share a little glimpse of what I'd like to do for our baby girl in a few years. You know, since she's not even born yet (10 weeks left!) and will at first need a crib and changing table.

I'd like to start with soft gray walls and use a mix-and-match set of antique-ish furniture I refinished years ago and is usually our guest room furniture. It includes a double bed that will get a pin tucked up-grade, a vanity and tall dresser.

Next, I'd like to layer in the pink or something equally girly. I think I've shared before that if I had had a baby girl first I wouldn't do much pink. But since I've had three boys first, PINK it up! Of course there needs to be a girly, pretty light fixture too!

I like the chevron rug in contrast with the pink frilly bedding. White accessories go great with the white dresser and vanity. Both pieces have dark wood tops, and the bed frame is natural wood as well. An old trunk or hope chest would be a great place for treasures, or just extra bedding.

Isn't the dollhouse/book case cute? I'd love to find an old doll house and fix it up, or have Gary make one for our little girl.

A few weeks ago I shared my Baby Girl Nursery Moodboard. I didn't use all the same pieces, but my intention is to have much of the same art, dresser and rug be the same. Who else is loving pink and gray and white?

It's so fun to dream, even if it's still a couple years off!

Maternity Wardrobe

Maternity Wardrobe 

I'm nearing the end of the second trimester of this fourth pregnancy, and let me tell you, I'm all about comfort! I'm finding maxi skirts, once again, to be the best thing out there, so I chose several for this set of clothes. I like loose fitting shirts and the most comfortable shoes I own are the only ones I wear!

Another goal in my wardrobe choice was to be able to mix and match. The red sweater and shoes would look cute with the blue dress, and the coral shirt would go with any of the skirts or pants. The chambray shirt has at least four pants/skirts that it would look great with, and so would either of the blue shirts. (The mint outfit is supposed to be pajamas! I think they'd be cute postpartum too.)

As we transition from summer into fall, it's been fun to add layers to my outfits. Scarves, a cardigan or a jean jacket make an old outfit seem new again. As the weather cools, I'll add leggings under my skirts and the sweaters will be worn all the time. I'm really hoping to stretch my wardrobe out to make it though the last 10-12 weeks.

Ellie's Closet {Fall 3-6}

Hi. It's been awhile. Again.

Oh well, such is life.

I missed a week before Thanksgiving because life is busy, then we went to see my in-laws for Thanksgiving and are still with them. I'll tell you more about it in my next post.

So. What has Ellie been wearing the last few weeks?

I created Week 3 when we were having a warm week. I left out sweaters and coats for several outfits. I also changed a couple items in Ellie's wardrobe at some point. I can't remember exactly what, so maybe you can spot it!

By Week 5, fall was really getting nippy! I added more jackets and coats and picked out warmer scarves for Ellie's outfits. I think the gray coat here was traded for a black one. They're both really versatile with her wardrobe, but the gray one is more flattering. I think the gray dress is new, traded for the black one that just wasn't working.

So there you go, 6 weeks of mix-and-match modest outfits that are still current, fun, and flattering. These outfits are appropriate for a stay-at-home mom, a teacher, or several other jobs, and I wish it was mine!

Next week, I'll be adding a few winter pieces, but I'm trying to limit Ellie's purchases as that's reality in my life right now.

Moodboard Collections: Around the Home

So here's a secret: by 'around the home' I mean 'leftovers'. 'Miscellaneous'. Or I just have one moodboard for this area so it can't be a collection, so I'll cram them all together, thereby making a collection! Viola!

Moodboard Collection: Work Spaces

Many of us work from home, some for fun, some out of necessity. Others homeschool their kids or have a dedicated space for their kids to do homework. Some just want a place to pay bills and check their email, or work on crafts. Many times these spaces double as dining rooms or guest rooms or are nooks carved out of living rooms or finished basements.

Moodboard Collection: Bedrooms

Oh, bedrooms bedrooms. Probably the most versatile space in all of interior design. So many colors and options available! I have a plain and simple bedroom right now, but if we were staying here longer or if it wasn't a rental, I'd have big plans for that space. No sense having your bedroom be boring!

Starting with nurseries, then girl bedrooms and boy bedrooms, we'll end with super fun and functional master bedrooms. Do you love your bedroom?

Moodboard Collection: Living Rooms

Our moodboard collection review continues! Looking at all of these pretty spaces just makes me drool. I'm silly like that. I'd love to be able to see the rooms in person! I know moodboards have the advantage of being imaginary, and in any real space there are challenges to overcome that you don't have to deal with for a moodboard. In our current {rental} home, we have a long and narrow living room and a very large fireplace. What are some of the limitations of your space? Do they ever force you to get creative?

Which look is your favorite? Anything new you want to try? I'll take a white leather sectional, please. No, make that a charcoal chesterfield sofa. :)
